Morecambe Bay Naturists
We are a low cost, membership based* naturist (nudist) club located in Silverdale, Lancashire, where we have a 10-acre site “Silverglades”.
Membership is limited to anyone who was born naked.
*As well as accepting new members, we try to accommodate Day Visitors
Nudist or Naturist?
“Naturism is a way of life in harmony with nature characterised by the practice of communal nudity with the intention of encouraging self-respect, respect for others and for the environment” (International Naturist Federation, 1974)
“A naturist is a person who aspires to the naturist philosophy as defined by the INF. A nudist is a person who just likes to be naked” (Glenne Findon, New Zealand Naturist Federation)
The “N” in MBNC happens to be for “Naturist”. It could equally be for “Nudist”. Or just “Naked”

We welcome applications from singles, couples and families
No waiting lists, no discrimination.
A small one-off joining fee which includes your first visit:
£15 (single) / £24 (unit)
Followed by a low annual membership fee:
£55 for singles or £70 for units
after which there is nothing more to pay, for year-round use of our 10-acre private site, Silverglades. No day fees, no camping fees.

What we are
Morecambe Bay Naturists isn’t like a traditional large naturist (or nudist) club. You could say we are a naturist beach, without the beach, but with woods and lawns instead!
This goes back to our roots in 1986 when Lancaster City Council officers created a short-lived nudist beach at Half Moon Bay near Heysham Head for the 1987 season. LCC councillors had second thoughts about naturism for 1988 and the beach lost its naturist designation.
As a result some of those who had visited the naturist beach clubbed together and obtained a small woodland site for the season (the location is forgotten now but may have been near Crook of Lune, Lancaster).
In 1989 we moved to our permanent site Silverglades, in the picturesque village of Silverdale, since when we’ve been a naturist beach… without a beach.
We have 10 acres of secluded woods, glades and lawns located only ten miles north of Lancaster and less than a mile from Morecambe Bay, and close to Silverdale Station.
We don’t have luxuries like electricity and gas – after all, what naturist beach does? Our facilities are very simple which is why our annual fee is so low – about £1 per week!
When members are present we mostly spend our time there outdoors which means it’s best to visit when the weather is warm.
The site is ideal for day visits, or for stripped-back camping.
We do not have a postal address, but directions to the entrance gate will be supplied on request.

We are situated in the heart of Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which is renowned for:
- Outstanding landscapes and spectacular views
- Unique limestone geology
- Morecambe Bay – a stunning seascape
- Rare and precious habitats
- Internationally and nationally important species
- A sense of tranquillity, space and place; and
- A highly protected area for both landscape and nature
Our site, ‘Silverglades’, occupies ten acres of sheltered south facing slopes, a spectacular mix of woodlands, glades, lawns and legally protected limestone pavements screened from the outside world.
We are a short distance from the Leighton Hall estate, and close to the RSPB Leighton Moss nature reserve.

Getting Here
By car or motor home we are only 5 miles from J35 of the M6 (leave via the A 601(M) east slip road onto the B2564 and travel through Carnforth / Millhead towards RSPB Leighton Moss; we will meet you at Silverdale station and lead you to our grounds)
By train we are a short 10 minutes walk (or 15 minutes including the track to the modest clubhouse!) from Silverdale station, making a visit easy for naturists living on the Leeds – Morecambe line, the West Coast line, and the Furness (Cumbria coast) line. Please note that some trains do not stop at Silverdale – check before travelling.
When travelling via Lancaster you may need to change for the Furness Line
Silverdale is 2 stations from Lancaster.
Cycling
Silverglades is on National Cycle Network Route 90, (a 130 mile loop around two AONBs), as well as Routes 6 (a 407 mile route between London and Threlkeld) and Route 700 (an 81 mile route, connecting Walney Island, Barrow in Furness to Glasson Dock, Lancaster.)
Route 90 is an excellent 130 mile (209 km) loop taking in the Forest of Bowland, Arnside and Silverdale AONB, the Ribble Valley as well as the world famous Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Beginning in Lancaster or Blackpool you follow the north Lancashire route anti-clockwise into the serene and challenging Forest of Bowland,through the Ribble Valley before heading into Arnside and Silverdale, passing by Leighton Moss RSPB after which you head back down Morecambe Bay to Lancaster and Blackpool.
Attending as a Day Visitor
We’d love you to visit, but we are primarily a Members Club so please note we may not be able to arrange access on the day of enquiring. We need a few days notice to make arrangements for a committee member to accompany non-members and open up the site.
Unfortunately, unaccompanied visitors are not allowed on site – this is a condition of our site licence.
There has never been a better time to try naturism. We know, all too well, that the pound in your pocket doesn’t go too far nowadays. We have kept our fees low, as usual this year, so it isn’t going to break the bank to visit Silverglades

Meet our Chairman
In 2010, I took part in a Spencer Tunick installation (Everyday People at The Lowry, Salford). Later that year I was invited to take part in a small scale installation for Spencer in Cambridge and since then I’ve done 2 more large installations (Munich 2012 and Hull 2016) as well as 7 small-scale installations with fewer than 30 participants. Through these I became involved in various Participation Art projects involving public nudity, and in 2011 I became a life model, initially for Brewery Arts in Kendal, and later for schools colleges, art groups and artists throughout the north of England. I retired in 2020 after sitting for over 1200 life drawing sessions.
I’ve also appeared on TV in 8 Out of 10 Cats does Countdown, and My Daughter the Teenage Naturist.
I joined MBNC in 2013 and in 2016 I was asked to join the committee to fill a vacancy and to edit the club’s website. In June 2017 I became Chairman
